English Music Session, The Borough

Our English music session takes place at lunchtime (12.00 for 12:30 pm carrying on to 3 or 3:30pm) on the first Sunday of each month. All musicians are welcome; in common with other English music sessions, tunes from all over the world are played, but in our (loose) interpretation of the southern English country style. It's not that we've got anything against singing, or Irish, French, Cajun music or whatever, but that's not what this session is about. If you are not sure about the repertoire come along and listen. If you want a book or CD to give you an idea of the sort of music we play a good start is the Hardcore English book and/or CD published by the EFDSS. The annual English Country Music Weekends form another point of reference.

Forthcoming dates are:

Sunday 2nd January 2011
Sunday 6th February 2011
Sunday 6th March 2011
Sunday 3rd April 2011
Sunday 1st May 2011
Sunday 5th June 2011

Sunday 7th August 2011
Sunday 4th September 2011
Sunday 2nd October 2011
Sunday 6th November 2011
Sunday 4th December 2011

This old-established (it started in 1981) session has had its home in a number of pubs in the Borough area of London; notably, and originally, in the Goose & Firkin.

We now meet at:

The Horseshoe Inn
26 Melior Street
London
SE1 3QP

The Horseshoe is an unspoiled, traditional, pub serving a number of real ales which was featured in the October-November 2008 (Volume 30 No.5) issue of London drinker. A full range of food is available, including Mongolian specialities.

Melior Street is a side-street off Weston Street, which runs between St Thomas Street and Long Lane. Here is a map showing the pub's location from the UK Streetmap site. The nearest station is London Bridge -- National Rail, and underground (Northern line (Bank branch) and Jubilee line). You can exit from the mainline or underground stations into St Thomas Street, via Joiner Street, and the Horseshoe is then two or three minutes walk away. Contact Transport for London for details of the many bus routes that serve the area.
