English Music Session, The Borough

Our English music session takes place in the afternoon (12 noon carrying on to 3 or 3:30pm) on the first Sunday of each month. All musicians are welcome; in common with other English music sessions, tunes from all over the world are played, but in our (loose) interpretation of the southern English country style. It's not that we've got anything against singing, or Irish, French, Cajun music or whatever, but that's not what this session is about. If you are not sure about the repertoire come along and listen. If you want a book or CD to give you an idea of the sort of music we play a good start is the Hardcore English book and/or CD published by the EFDSS. The annual English Country Music Weekends form another point of reference.

Forthcoming dates are:

Sunday 5th February 2023
Sunday 5th March 2023
Sunday 2nd April 2023
Sunday 7th May 2023
Sunday 4th June 2023
Sunday 2nd July 2023

This old-established (it started in 1981) session has had its home in a number of pubs in the Borough area of London; notably, and originally, in the Goose & Firkin.

We are now meeting at:

The King's Arms
65 Newcomen Street
London
SE1 1YT

The King's Arms is a traditional back street pub, serving a range of real ales. Snacks are available but the pub is currently not serving food on Sundays.

The pub is a few minutes' walk from London Bridge station (Northern line, Jubilee line and National Rail). Exit from the National Rail station via Joiner Street, then follow Great Maze Pond (the road through the grounds of Guy's Hospital) and turn right at Newcomen Street; from the Underground use the Borough High Street exit and walk south along the High Street -- Newcomen Street is a side street on the left. Contact Transport for London for details of the many bus routes that serve the area.
