Friday 18th January 2019 Burns Night with Racker Donnelly and Carol Anderson plus music from Maggie Casey (whistle), Johnny Be (mandola), Trisha Montague (fiddle) The irrepressible Racker entertains with his comic and tragic poetry (wearing his Scott-ish hat tonight) while Carol, brilliant fiddle player from Aberdeenshire, charms us with her melodious Scots airs.
Friday 8th February 2019 Thomas McCarthy With music from The Pigeons (Sarah Crofts (concertina), Paul Gross (fiddle)) Delighted to have the great Traveller singer back with us. Recently honoured with the TG4 (Irish TV) GRADAM award and also featured in an art installation at Trinity College, Dublin, Thomas has been a member of MTC since Dec 2008. CDs available from his website; most recent is "Jauling the Green Tober", with Viv Legg.
Friday 1st March 2019 Róisín White Traditional singer, born in Co Down but now busy singing in the musical community of Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare, Róisín has a rich repertoire from Sarah Anne O'Neill, Paddy Tunney and the like and has recently arranged the rerelease of recordings by Robert Cinnamond ('Tis Pretty to be in Ballinderry). She has recorded for Veteran and was Singer of the Year 2015 in the Irish TG4 (TV) awards.
Friday 12th April 2019 Peter and Barbara Snape Peter and Barbara hail from Lancashire and bring to life the rich traditions of local song from Music Hall to songs about mills and mines and union struggles plus the odd temperance hymn. Sparkling singing by Barbara plus dazzling melodeon accompaniment by Peter.
Friday 17th May 2019 Will Noble Will (champion drystone waller as well as great singer) has a rich repertoire of songs learned in his native South Pennines, heard in pubs and at hunt suppers from the older generation of Yorkshire traditional singers. His rendition of The Mistletoe Bough has become indispensable at the Sheffield carols. Will has recently brought out a new CD, It's Gritstone for Me (VT161CD).
