Day Date Artist
Friday 6th April 2018 Archive Film Night plus songs from Doc Rowe and Jill Pidd Doc Rowe is renowned for his filming of traditional singers and folk customs since the 1960s and has built up an incredible and invaluable archive & collection.
He has recorded Musical Traditions Club over many years. Tonight he will present a selection from these, including our first night (19th October 1990) when our guest was Fred Jordan.
JiIl Pidd, from Hull, was Fred's favourite woman singer as well as performing with the Watersons for some years so we are delighted to invite her to sing for us. Doc has also been known to sing the odd song!
(Raffle will be a fundraiser for the Doc Rowe Archive)
Friday 11th May 2018 Dan Milner & Bonnie Milner plus English tunes from The Pigeons We are delighted to welcome our good friends Dan & Bonnie for their first performance together at MTC. They have a passion for singing and a very special and unusual repertoire. Bonnie & Dan Milner sing traditional Irish, Irish-American and maritime songs in unaccompanied harmony. Each is also a strong solo vocalist.
Dan Milner, geography professor and world traveller, grew up in a singing Irish family in Birmingham England, Ballybunion Ireland and Brooklyn. His CD, Irish Pirates Ballads, received 2 Indie Award nominations in 2011.
Bonnie's interest in sea songs was sparked by hearing shanties sung at Mystic Seaport in Connecticut, and carried further by her friendship with the last working shantyman, Stan Hugill. She is a member of the renowned, all-woman quartet, The Johnson Girls. They have toured extensively in Europe and North America.
Friday 8th June 2018 Jeff Warner plus tunes from Liz Giddings and Roger Digby
